The 20th day of March 2020 will go down in history as one of the most provocative days in the history of fashion. On this fabled day the blockbuster video game Animal Crossing New Horizon hit Nintendo Switches worldwide. You are probably asking how a video game about simping for a raccoon could set the fashion world aflame. You’re lucky, buster, because I got all the answers, and I’m gonna give you the inside scoop, starting right… now!
Within the game, you have the ability to customize your clothes using pixel art, my favorite. Most days I spend about 2 hours doing pixel art. I do all kinds of crazy designs. I have done a dog, last week I did a raspberry, and in 2019 I did a rocketship. In the game, though it’s even crazier. Using your in-game smartphone you can choose a blank garment, anything from a dress to a tank top, and with a pixel art tool, create your own prints and designs. Lots of crazy Animal Crossing pieces have been popping off online, so I wanted to highlight some of my favorites, and even dick on some of the worst.
Prada SS18 Flame Bowler:
This iconic, asymmetrical print, cotton-twill, Prada Bowler is nothing short of a statement. This gorgeous piece of ass has been seen on a variety of A list celebrities, with the likes of Pusha T, Jeff Goldblum, and even me (seen above with the shit buttoned all the way; smh how disgusting, what am I wearing? I matched that bowler with offwhite blazers WTF!?!?! and I put on orange laces to match the shirt: I’m gonna rip my eyes out). Animal Crossing player Dylan, mayor of Dylville, brewed up this garm and matched it with some beige hotpants, duck boots, and a safari hat. This bowler has always been one of my favorite garms, too bad I had to sell it to pay for school (hope you’re doing it justice Grailed user Sunra617). It released SS18 for $950, and now can be purchased resale for around $2,000. Don’t spend that much on a bowler though, just make that shit in Animal Crossing.
Raf Simons AW02 Virginia Creeper Crewneck:
The Virginia Creeper is one of the most hyped archive pieces of all time. Released back in the AW02 collection, the crew neck has become more legendary and sought after year after year. Dipped in acid, the exterior layer of the crewneck fades and deteriorates over time, leaving holes and stains scattered throughout. I would suck this crewneck’s dick if it had one. Archive heads can say this piece is lame and overhyped, but with resale prices at around $2,500 dollars, it’s hard to deny its icon status. Being a little Raf fanboy, I picked up the creeper, and having become more knowledgeable and stylish since my Prada bowler Off-White blazer days, I matched it with some Dries bondage pants and CDG Docs (I even took the fit to SOHO!). The crew neck was recreated in Animal Crossing, looking just about identical to its real-life counterpart. Who wore it better though, me or the animal crossing goon?
Calvin Klein 205W39 Looney Tunes Roadrunner Inverted Stitch Sweater:
Released under Raf’s 3 year run with Calvin Klein, within the AW18 collection, this reverse knit sweater has become nothing short of epochal. This Virgin wool sweater is characterized by its reverse intarsia knit, drop shoulders, and elongated sleeves. I don’t know if you can see it, maybe if you squint, but all of these details and more were included in the Animal Crossing rendition (that’s a joke, there is no way you could recreate every intricate detail of this piece in a video game STFU). The in-game creator of this sweater put an immense amount of time into summarizing it though, so round of applause for him, good job! He even styled it well with some black chinos and boots. I also can’t get over his cute little band-aid. What happened, is his boo boo ok? I’ll keep you guys updated on that don’t worry, but until then enjoy this gorgeous rendition of the CK205 Roadrunner sweater.
Undercover SS2015 Television Marquee Moon Parka :
The Undercover television theme has achieved fashion archive royalty. Inspired by, and stealing images from Marquee Moon, the prints celebrate the fabled 70’s New York Punk band. Rich with history and iconography the band was an obvious choice for an Undercover all-over-print. The Marquee Moon parka shown above was recreated by user Near. He did a pretty smackin good job if I do say so myself. He even threw in an Atomic Couture beanie on top. This piece stuck out as the detail was so impeccably emulated. I am never able to get that much detail with my pixel art, it’s really frustrating. So Near, if you are reading this give me some tips and tricks. The fit he put together works really well. He kept it simple with some beige highwater chinos and sleek almond chelseas, nothing short of fabulous. If you want this piece in real life though, it’s gonna run you just over 1k. I don’t know why you would want a stupid parka with three mooks motherfuckers on it anyway, skip this buy; it looks good in Animal Crossing though.
Raf Simons AW03 New Order Parka:
More Raf SImons!!! What else would you expect from a Sam article. I had to include this piece though, come on. The New Order parka is one of, if not the most legendary piece of archive fashion. This greasy pig will set you back on average about $12,000, making it the Air Mag archive equivalent. The hand painted collaboration with Peter Saville, showcases the album cover for band, New Order’s, critically acclaimed “Power, Corruption, and Lies.” As you can tell, in the Animal Crossing rendition the floral painting was meticulously hand pixel arted onto the back, along with the supplementary details painstakingly covering the parka (look how shitty it is, another joke, I’m pretty sarcastic). The character looks super dorky in it, as would anyone wearing this parka in real life. The mismatch of natural denim and beige canvas shoes with the top clash abhorrently. The “look at me I’m a loser” haircut is the cherry on top, making this one of the hottest fits of all time. I can’t wait to see what other expensive archive pieces this creator is going to construct.
Enough Joshing though. The inclusion of customizable clothes in Animal Crossing is really cool, and I’m excited to see what fits people are planning in the future. I of course couldn’t include all of them, and I needed to save spots for as many Raf Simons fits as possible, so here are some honorable mentions and some photo shoots from the entries above, including one Chad, Off-White fit.

If I had to choose which "look" I liked best out of this particular collection of customized outfits I would say it was the road runner reverse knit sweater. The cost wasn't put on this item, but virgin wool anything can last forever. So when the wearer gets a bit older and possibly decides for a change to wear it right side out just for the heck of it, he will discover that it's reversible(my, how wonderfully utilitarian).
